Green tea originated from China and has been used as a medicine for many years. Its been known to have multiple health benefits, and it’ll be rare to find a nutritionist that doesn’t swear by adding this detox tea to a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately approximately 80% of our population are still big black tea drinkers. Here’s 5 reasons to consider going Green..

  1. This brew helps combat diseases

Green tea is made from un-oxidized leaves and is one of the less processed types of tea. The antioxidants and beneficial polyphenols it contains help to cleanse our bodies.

These detoxifying substances protect cells and molecules which can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are known to play a role in all sorts of diseases.

2. It zaps fat and increases energy

The polyphenol found in green tea enhances fat burning and boosts your metabolic rate, meaning that food and calories are broken down quicker. Additionally, in one study in 10 healthy men, green tea increased energy expenditure by 4%

Both animal and human studies have also demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

4. Its a beverage that could make you savvy

The key active ingredient is a small amount of natural caffeine, which is a known stimulant to improve brain function. Caffeine has been intensively studied before and consistently leads to improvements in various aspects of brain function, including improved mood, vigilance, reaction time and memory. Specifically, green tea drinkers showed increased connectivity in key parts of the brain associated with memory.

Detox Day

BREAKFAST (within 1 hour of waking)

  • 1 Tbs. flaxseed
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 spinach
  • 1 Tbs Almond butter
  • 2 Tsp lemon juice

LUNCH

  • 4 celery stalks
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1/2 green apple
  • 1/2 squeezed lime
  • 1 tbs melted coconut oil
