Barcelona: Sagrada Família

Many tourists from all over the world flock to see this landmark. The buzz around it is incredible, and of course the money perks of charging 16-17 euros to every person who wants to get inside can’t be bad for tourism profits.

This very large Roman Catholic church, designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí is a UNESCO World Heritage site, even though it isn’t even finished yet!

Construction of Sagrada Familia began in 1882. In 1926, by the time that Gaudi died at age 73, less than a quarter of the project was complete.

Gaudí devoted his last years to the project. It is absolutely beautiful and the detail is breathtaking.

Every single piece is carefully crafted. So much detail that you could gaze and notice different shapes for days. Gaudi took inspiration from the Vatican in Rome, which I’ve  also been lucky enough to visit and you can definitely tell because of the style and detail of even just the outside of the church.
Being my impatient self I couldn’t be bothered with the queues, but seeing the beauty of just the outside was more than enough.

The towers and most of the church’s structure are to be completed by 2026, the centennial of Gaudí’s death, and the decorative elements should be complete by 2030 or 2032. Making it an architectural masterpiece that will take 150 years!

Can’t wait for that grand opening!

The Sunday Slay

Sunday’s are my favourite day to reflect, review and set goals for the following week ✍🏻💙

Because while most are sitting resting watching TV, I’m busy creating lots of ideas on how to build my empire, and catching up with my wonderful team to set a plan of action for the week. (As well as relaxing and watching a bit of TV!)
A Goal without a plan is just a wish. And success isn’t built on wishes, it’s built on actions that generate results!

Clean Beef & Halloumi Burgers

One thing I’ve realised since taking on a more healthy lifestyle is that good food doesn’t have to be boring!

Here’s how to cook one of my new faves: Beef and Halloumi burgers and sweet potato fries – yep all healthy and all on my Juiceplus plan!

Ingredients:

  • 2-4 Beef burgers (we used gluten free but you can use any of your choice)
  • 1 onion
  • Avocado
  • 1 big tomato
  • 1 pack of Halloumi
  • 2 big sweet potatoes
  • Paprika
  • Olive oil

Note: you can choose your quantity of single or double per person.

Sweet potato fries

– Chop the sweet potatoes into chip size chunks

– Throw the chips into a bowl and marinate with olive oil and paprika

– Place on an oven tray and cook in the oven on 225c for approx. 15-20 minutes.

The burgers

– Start by chopping some onion and squashing small pieces into the burger for extra flavour. Remould if needed

– Chop the tomato, avocado and Halloumi into slices.

10 minutes in…

– pop the burgers into a pan and fry with coconut oil

– In the last few minutes add Halloumi into a pan to cook

If timed correctly all should be finished at the same time.

Layer the contents onto a skewer and add the sweet potato fries at the side.

Bon Appetit

5 reasons to love Green Tea

Green tea originated from China and has been used as a medicine for many years. Its been known to have multiple health benefits, and it’ll be rare to find a nutritionist that doesn’t swear by adding this detox tea to a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately approximately 80% of our population are still big black tea drinkers. Here’s 5 reasons to consider going Green..

  1. This brew helps combat diseases

Green tea is made from un-oxidized leaves and is one of the less processed types of tea. The antioxidants and beneficial polyphenols it contains help to cleanse our bodies.

These detoxifying substances protect cells and molecules which can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are known to play a role in all sorts of diseases.

2. It zaps fat and increases energy

The polyphenol found in green tea enhances fat burning and boosts your metabolic rate, meaning that food and calories are broken down quicker. Additionally, in one study in 10 healthy men, green tea increased energy expenditure by 4%

Who doesn’t want to be more toned with more energy right?

3. It’s a cuppa that keeps you pretty

Green tea can apparently help with wrinkles and signs of aging!

Ever wondered why so many skincare products contain green tea extract? This is because their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities help inhibit free radicals from breaking down collagen, the protein in our skin that keeps us looking young.

Both animal and human studies have also demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

4. Its a beverage that could make you savvy

The key active ingredient is a small amount of natural caffeine, which is a known stimulant to improve brain function. Caffeine has been intensively studied before and consistently leads to improvements in various aspects of brain function, including improved mood, vigilance, reaction time and memory. Specifically, green tea drinkers showed increased connectivity in key parts of the brain associated with memory.

5. Going green can help with those pearly whites

teeth

  • Cavities – Green tea is anti-bacterial, it may help reduce bacteria and acid in the mouth.
  • Gums – Green tea’s anti-inflammatory substance can aid in controlling gum disease.
  • Tooth Loss – A study in the Journal of Periodontology showed that green tea may markedly reduce enamel loss.
  • Oral Cancer – Not only has green tea been linked to helping prevent breast and prostate cancer, but may slow the progression of oral cancer as well.
  • Smelly breath – Bacteria and other microbes make our breath smell, errr. Green tea’s anti-bacterial properties fight stinky bacteria too! Winning.

For me it’s a no brainer really. I choose to be healthy and youthful..pass me the Twinings.

Post 200: Boatin’ in Cannes

So I’m writing this post while laying tanning on a boat in Cannes. This really is the life!

I’ve also just realised that this is my 200th post on my blog. What a lovely way to celebrate right? While chilling in the sunshine, while on holiday where I am at my happiest.

I’m in Cannes for a few days visiting our friend Kenzie who has grown up here. We are living like locals in the day, and tourists in the night. Seeing some great sights, soaking up the sun, and eating good French food.

Our first night here we got in around 3am and ate a cheese board! True French style. Better than your average drunken McDonald’s I suppose!

There are lots of places I’m going to post about here, but for now I’m going to nap in the sun.

I’ll just leave you with a lovely picture of the turquoise blue sea..

Happy Saturday!

Oh you Crazy Bear!

Last week I headed to one of the infamous ‘Crazy Bear’ venues for mid-week dinner. The Crazy Bear group, originally founded in 1993, is a collection of outstanding hotels and restaurants, acclaimed for its Thai cuisine and dramatic decor.

Myself and a few friends headed to their restaurant in Fitzrovia. Most convenient for us as its positioned between Goodge Street and  Tottenham Court Road, and easily accessible after a day of working in the city.

The establishment is lavish, sophisticated, and the perfect setting for a night of epic celebrations.

Of the 4 of us, 2 had just had birthdays, I was celebrating my recent promotion in my business and the last was a bittersweet farewell to my friend Michaela who is moving to Oz next month. So cause for a special occasion I would say!

From the outside you wouldn’t know what this place was. There is no sign on the building; just a plain black canopy across the top. How very mysterious.

The look of confusion at my GPRS instigated a friendly woman at reception to shout,

‘Are you looking for the crazy bear?’

A place so elite that it doesn’t need it’s name on the door perhaps? Or based on an assumption that people who come to dine here should know exactly where it is?

Either way, if you head here, keep an eye out for the Spaghetti House next door, thatll be much easier for you to find.

I waited in the bar downstairs, cocktail in hand for everyone to arrive. The ambiance is very mellow but the decor is edgy yet classy. Red and white leathers and a copper bar.

Upstairs, where you dine there’s a slightly warmer vibe. Subtle mood lighting and dark oak interior that creates a very relaxed and romantic atmosphere.

dine

Thanks to bookatable we got a sweet little deal: 12 courses and a glass of champagne for just £38. Winning.

There are lots of deals for the Crazy Bear Group on groupon too, if you’re anything like me and like to fine dine at a set price.

Often on these multiple course menus, in these more ‘upper class’ restaurants you tend to expect very little food. So the thought of 12 courses didn’t scare me; as i imagined 12 plates of different ‘courses’ that consisted of a singular piece of meat or palm of veg. This was not the case.

There are two simple options for you to choose from, vegetarian or classic.

There is such a variation over the 12 courses. There has to be something you like. The lobster pad Thai was my most favorite and those caramelized courgettes. Wow. If all vegetables tasted like that, no one would ever struggle to eat well!

Each course was rich in taste and cooked to perfection. And well worth the cost of the deal! Just be aware that the cocktails are not included. At £12 per pop on average, they can soon sky rocket your bill.

Overall great food, great company and somewhere i’d definitely recommend. The Fitzrovia venue has won The London Lifestyle Awards Best Restaurant, The Evening Standard’s Best Bar of the year, Theme Magazine’s Best Designed and Best Operated Bar, and The Times’ runner up for Best Bar in Southern England. So its fair to say its well sought after.

My next trip to the Crazy Bear will have to be in Beaconsfield, to one of their famous pool parties! See you there.

Happy Blogiversary to us!

So today is WordPress and I’s 1st Anniversay!

I can’t believe it’s been 365 days since I finally took the plunge, and signed up to express my views, life and writing with the whole of the blogosphere.

What a whirlwind it’s been.

I’ve blogged about the ins and outs of travelling through more than 10 countries, documents my biggest learnings, lessons and failures, provided beauty tips and recipes, talked about London and my lifestyle and now most recently posting about my new life of healthy living!

This really is an insight into me and my journey of self discovery. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person who has took the time to read, like, comment and follow my blog. Without you all, this would simply be a diary to myself!

Happy Anniversary!

Namaste

Through a startling realisation of how unflexible I am, I have recently decided to take up Yoga (amongst many other things) in my new found fitness regime.

I had my first class today at Another Space. Not your average yoga though, hot yoga. Basically it’s yoga but in 30 degree heat.

I’ve only had a few previous yoga sessions. However, this was years ago when I did a few classes of hot Bikram yoga at the studio in London Bridge.

Needless to say I was no expert, but my unflexible suspicions were confirmed when most of participants in the room could touch their toes bending over quite easily, and my hands barely passed my knees…

On the plus side I’m feeling very zen and ready to attack the rest of the day!

I also have a new personal challenge to be more at one with my body, getting much more flexible in the process. Fingers crossed.

P.s Do you like my new ellesse leggings?

I’m loving all the bold and colourful prints out right now! Time for a fitness shopping spree I think.

Monday’s are for Positive Purple

Hi Everyone

I hope you’re all having a wonderful Monday!

I’m flying high this morning with these beautiful berry nails.. Do you like the colour?

I love it! Purple is my favourite because it’s super bright and positive. What’s you favourite colour?

Thanks to my Juiceplus berry capsules my nails are longer and stronger than ever. No more need for shellac or fake nails, so needless to say it saves me a fair bit of money on pampering; especially as this lovely nail varnish is actually from the pound shop would you believe?!

What a bargain!
