1st day in Cape Verde

…and I’m loving the place!

This island is almost untouched. It hasn’t really been a ‘touristy’ spot for too long so it’s very up and coming. Just how I like it.

We’re staying in Sal which is known to be more developed. It’s very peaceful and quiet here, lots of families and older people.

The hotel where we’re staying is unreal! There is literally everything you need on the complex (apart from mosquitos I’d happily get rid of those). The staff at Melissa Dunas are so friendly! The food is amazing with so much choice. We have 7 pools to choose from, our very own beach, and there are so many excursions to do in our time here. I am so excited for his week!

Pure bliss to me. It’s a bit windy but that’s nice when the sun is scorching hot aye!

Here’s a few pics of our first day So far, lots more to follow….

3 reasons to love Barcelona

August was my second time in Barcelona, and I loved it just as much as the first time. It really is a place that has everything, which is why its so popular all year round among tourists.

We stayed in the popular ‘Gothic Quarter’. The great thing about this place is that everything happens relatively close together, so most things are within 10 minutes walk from any popular destination.

Reason 1: A beautiful beach

Soft sand, clear water, an outside gym in the middle and bars and restaurants across the strip. What more do you need?

Reason 2: Lots of history

First and foremost, The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada FamíliaThis very large Roman Catholic church, designed by famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí is due to be complete by 2032. Dont let that stop you visting though, its absolutely amazing!

Camp Nou -The stadium home to FC Barcelona since its completion in 1957. With a seating capacity of 99,354, its the largest stadium in the whole of Europe. Now im not a football fan myself, but as I was with Liam, this was a ust on our to do list, and i have to day its was a great afternoon!

There are so many other museums and art galleries for those who like that sort of thing. The options are endless so make sure you have a look on Tripadvisor before you go!

And if you want a real taste of Tapas, without the tourist prices, head to Blai Street – a row of homely tapas restaurants that is cheap and absolutely amazing!

Reason 3: Vibrant nightlife

Whether you’re having a relatively ‘quiet one’ down La Rambla; the popular 1.2 kilometre street of cafes and bars, or partying until the early hours in Pacha along La Barceloneta beach, Barca nightlife really is one of the best.

Theres even an Ice Bar two clubs away from Pacha. Is anyone else just super impressed that such a hot country has an Ice Bar? I definitely am.

5 ways to be happier in life

Its Monday – doom and gloom day for many. But not me, I love Mondays!

New week, new possibilities and new goals to smash. Hell yeah.

To get you all through the week with a big smile on your face, I’ve put together 5 ways in which I believe you can lead a happier life.

All additional tips are welcome; just post them in the comments section J

  1. Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people

Positives attract positives, it’s a given! The law of Attraction is a powerful thing. If you are surrounded by negativity you will most likely become more negative.

Spend your time wisely with people who fulfill you, lift your mood and make you smile.

  1. Stop reading the news every day

I’m sure a lot of people will gasp at the sight of this comment. Avoid being updated on the Worlds current affairs – how could you possibly?!

However, if you want to be happier you need a News Detox. The News is filled with negativity and “brain washing” to flood people’s minds with fear and worry. Sad stories do not make for a happy mind. The world can be horrible yes, but it can also be wonderful too! Try a weekly newspaper instead of a daily one.

  1. Eat Healthier and do some exercise

These two go hand in hand with each other.

I know that sitting around eating chocolate bars and living off caffeine drinks for energy seems like the easier option, but feeling lethargic and fat is not something that will make you smile.

Living healthy has been proven to have a positive psychological effect on living beings. I mean, look at how happy dogs are when they’re running around chasing sticks in the park!

eathealth

Get some fruit and veg down you and go for a run to boost those energy levels.

As a wise blonde lawyer once said ‘Exercise releases endorphin’s and endorphin’s make you happy’ Listen to Elle, she speaks sense.

  1. Try something new

Especially on the weekends! Relaxation time is important, but don’t waste the only 2 days you have off of work lying in bed!

Try out a new hobby, do a fun day with friends and family, or how about learning a new language? Knowledge is power after all.

  1. Travel often

“Travelling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer” Hear hear.

Be rich in life and live for new experiences in new places, new cultures and new inspirations. Expand your mind as much as you can and learn and travel often.

Don’t worry, be happy. You’re alive after all, and life is beautiful thing. No matter what day of the week it is.

Barcelona: Sagrada Família

Many tourists from all over the world flock to see this landmark. The buzz around it is incredible, and of course the money perks of charging 16-17 euros to every person who wants to get inside can’t be bad for tourism profits.

This very large Roman Catholic church, designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí is a UNESCO World Heritage site, even though it isn’t even finished yet!

Construction of Sagrada Familia began in 1882. In 1926, by the time that Gaudi died at age 73, less than a quarter of the project was complete.

Gaudí devoted his last years to the project. It is absolutely beautiful and the detail is breathtaking.

Every single piece is carefully crafted. So much detail that you could gaze and notice different shapes for days. Gaudi took inspiration from the Vatican in Rome, which I’ve  also been lucky enough to visit and you can definitely tell because of the style and detail of even just the outside of the church.
Being my impatient self I couldn’t be bothered with the queues, but seeing the beauty of just the outside was more than enough.

The towers and most of the church’s structure are to be completed by 2026, the centennial of Gaudí’s death, and the decorative elements should be complete by 2030 or 2032. Making it an architectural masterpiece that will take 150 years!

Can’t wait for that grand opening!

Post 200: Boatin’ in Cannes

So I’m writing this post while laying tanning on a boat in Cannes. This really is the life!

I’ve also just realised that this is my 200th post on my blog. What a lovely way to celebrate right? While chilling in the sunshine, while on holiday where I am at my happiest.

I’m in Cannes for a few days visiting our friend Kenzie who has grown up here. We are living like locals in the day, and tourists in the night. Seeing some great sights, soaking up the sun, and eating good French food.

Our first night here we got in around 3am and ate a cheese board! True French style. Better than your average drunken McDonald’s I suppose!

There are lots of places I’m going to post about here, but for now I’m going to nap in the sun.

I’ll just leave you with a lovely picture of the turquoise blue sea..

Happy Saturday!

I am extremely excited abot this can you tell? ha

Were staying in the beautiful Blue Bay Resort & Spa Hotel, 200m from the beach. Watch this space for a review on whether this place lives up to the pictures.

6 days of blissful sunbathing, dining, pampering, partying, and lots of laughs and memories made with my 3 favourite humans in the world. Winning!

On another plus note, its a bankholiday weekend yayyyy, lots of activities planned!! What are you doing over bank holiday?

The lowdown on a Bohol day tour

We only had a day/night in Bohol and we had lots we wanted to see so a tour seemed like the best option for us.
Most tour shops close at 6pm so if you get to Tagbilaran late, you are limited with choice. Head to the Sealine travel shop in the shopping mall, East of rival park and they are open later. The travel shop is on the first floor, next to the big sports shop.

(You can also book your boat tickets to Cebu city next door like we did for the following day; kill two birds with one stone – winning!)

In the travel shop you can book on organised tours ranging from 1000-1500php per person.  This includes additional places like the Butterfly park, man made forests and zip lining. They also provide lunch for you.

The price of your tour is dependant on the number of passengers (the more of you there is the cheaper it gets).
In the end, we opted for hiring a private car for the day as it worked out cheaper, and we had the freedom to choose the places we wanted to go. Our driver also dropped us back to get our bags at the end of the day and straight to the pier to get the ferry back to Cebu, all for just 1500 PHP!
On our tour we visited the Tarsier Sanctuary and the Loboc river.

We also headed to the Loboc floating restaurant as recommended by our driver. We were actually unaware that this was a package lunch and river cruise. Unfortunately we ate just before we headed off so we weren’t hungry enough to take advantage of this.

It did however, look like the cruise wouldve been a lovely experience and it only costs 250 PHP per person for lunch. Please let me know how what it’s like if you go and experience this!

In the afternoon we headed to the Chocolate Hills which is furthest out. (All posts on these to come!)
