Maitre Choux – An Eclair Affair

On my way back from the Thai Embassy in South Kensington yesterday I came across Maitre Choux; South Kensington’s French Speciality pastry shop that opened a few months back, and everyone was tweeting about it.
Cake cake cake..we know that you like it.

As the relationship between human and food is an ongoing love affair, I couldn’t resist and had to pop in to see what all the fuss was about.
Award-winning pastry chef Joakim Prat is behind the phenomenon. This patisserie is dedicated to creating the best of all things indulgent. The shop has an impressive array of decorated eclairs and small cakes for each of their customers to choose from. Lets not forget the mini éclair pops for all those watching their figure.

Whether you’re a lover of all things fresh and fruity or a sucker for millionaire shortbread, there is sure to be something that tickles your fancy. There’s also the option to personalise your own or create a very special gift (you can even get it filled upon ordering for utter freshness!).

For a handful of customers there is the option to dine in, adding a twist on afternoon tea. There’s a selection of different hot and cold beverages including the famous Basque-recipe hot chocolate created by none other than Joakims grandma.
Its like an éclair version of Lolas Cupcakes, but be prepared, these decorated bits of deluxe will set you back around a fiver. I remember the days when an éclair in Greggs cost me 55p, haven’t times changed?
